RED TREASURE: Real Madrid are plotting a £50M bid in January for Diogo Dalot to fill their right-back position as uncertainty about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s intentions persists

REAL MADRID is reportedly showing strong interest in signing Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot.

This comes as the LaLiga giants have repeatedly approached Liverpool regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires this summer. With Liverpool currently at the top of the Premier League and Alexander-Arnold being a local talent, Madrid may reconsider their chances of luring him away from a new deal at Anfield.

Instead, Carlo Ancelotti’s side is looking at Dalot as a potential alternative to the England right-back. According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Madrid values Dalot at around £41 million. The 15-time Champions League winners even inquired about Dalot while Erik ten Hag was still managing United.

The 25-year-old has made 178 appearances for the Red Devils and was voted the player of the year by his teammates last season. His significance grew during United’s challenging 2023-24 campaign, as he started 35 of 38 Premier League matches and scored twice.

New manager Ruben Amorim will evaluate which players he wants to keep, but Dalot is expected to be among them. The Portugal international has four years left on his United contract, having signed a new deal in May 2023.

Meanwhile, Madrid could potentially acquire Alexander-Arnold for free. After progressing through Liverpool’s youth ranks, the Merseyside star is now in the final six months of his contract. However, Arne Slot will work to convince him to sign a new deal at Anfield, and if Liverpool maintains its current momentum, it could be hard for him to turn down.

Alexander-Arnold, a right-back with an impressive tally of 84 assists and 23 goals in 326 appearances for Liverpool, has long been linked with a move to Madrid, especially now that Los Blancos are without their regular right-back, six-time Champions League winner Dani Carvajal, who has injured his ACL.
