Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim recently fulfilled a young fan’s ‘dream’ by taking him for a lap around the Carrington training center in his car.
The Portuguese coach, facing a challenging start with three consecutive defeats before Monday’s Premier League match against Newcastle, was described as ‘a humble, normal man’ after this heartfelt gesture.
Amorim’s United had a stunning 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester City earlier this month but has since dropped to 14th in the Premier League, losing 3-0 to Bournemouth and 2-0 to Wolves, along with being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Tottenham.
Despite these struggles, Amorim has gained support from Red Devils fans due to his demeanor, and his kindness was evident this week at the training ground.
In a video shared on social media, a young supporter approached Amorim’s car to hand him what looked like a card. The manager shook his hand and posed for a photo.
After the fan expressed admiration for Amorim’s car, he was invited to sit in the passenger seat for a drive around the training center, leaving the boy speechless.
The video concluded with the message: ‘Speechless, I was extremely thankful! Thank you Ruben for making a dream a reality.’
Fans quickly praised Amorim for his gesture online. One supporter commented, ‘What an absolute legend.’ Another said, ‘Dude is epic! We got your back, Ruben.’ A third added, ‘What a very likable guy we have as manager,’ while another remarked, ‘Protect our manager at all costs. Such a nice gesture. Top man and what an experience for the kid.’
Amorim is already under pressure at Manchester United, less than two months after succeeding Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils are just eight points above the relegation zone ahead of the Newcastle match, with a 13-point gap from fourth place.
The 39-year-old took the young fan for a spin around the training center, but the upcoming matches pose a challenge for Amorim, who will face Liverpool at Anfield and Arsenal in the FA Cup third round in January.
After suffering his fourth defeat in five Premier League games at Molineux last week, Amorim emphasized the need for Manchester United to adopt a survival mentality.
He dismissed the idea of European qualification, stating, ‘Right now, we just have to survive and win when we can. No, no, no (to European qualification). We need to work on many things both on and off the pitch.’
Perhaps more concerning for United fans, Amorim admitted he has ‘no idea’ how long it will take for his team to improve.
‘I have no idea. No idea,’ he said. ‘Instead of trying to figure out how long it will take, it’s about improving day by day, analyzing videos, maximizing training time, and securing points, which is crucial right now.
‘The idea needs time. This will be a tough period; we are far from the end of it, and we must continue to focus on the next game.’
