Sydel has grown up around Cameron Brink’s mother since Michelle and Sydel’s mother, Sonya Curry, are very close to each other. Both Sonya and Michelle were roommates at Virginia Tech. They were both also student athletes. While Sonya played volleyball, Michelle Brink and her husband played basketball.
Sonya is also the godmother of Cameron Brink. She followed her parents’ footsteps and pursued basketball, eventually landing a career in the WNBA. Brink only played 15 games in her rookie season before going down with a season-ending ACL injury.
Sydel Curry followed her mother’s footsteps, wanting to play professional volleyball. She played college volleyball for three seasons at Elon University from 2014 to 2016.
However, Sydel had to step away from the sport in 2017 because of the lingering injury. She has a psychology major from Elon University. Sydel also has a locker room named after her at Elon University, which was gifted by her brother Steph.
