Shohei Ohtani is a miracle we are so blessed to be alive for. The pitching, the slugging, everything about Shohei Ohtani is amazing. He is clearly one of if not, the best players in the league. He is the face of Major League Baseball. However, there’s a certain shortstop in Cincinnati that’s pretty well known too. Elly De La Cruz is the most electrifying player in baseball currently. But he’s not the face of the MLB. That will change this upcoming season.

Newly hired Reds manager Terry Francona had some strong words about Elly De La Cruz. “My goal for him is not just to be an exciting, good player…It’s to be one of the best players in baseball on one of the best teams in baseball,” stated Tito. De La Cruz faces a lot of criticism, mostly for his high strikeout numbers. But when he does make contact with the ball, all eyes gather. De La Cruz has it all. Power, athleticism, speed, and swagger. Anytime De La Cruz reaches the bases, you can guarantee he’s swiping a bag.
De La Cruz and Ohtani both provide electricity whenever they take the field. And it will be hard for someone to take the title from him. But if there’s anyone who has the best chance, it’s De La Cruz. We already saw the progression from De La Cruz this past season. He took a big step from his first season. If all goes to plan, the same will happen in 2025. It would be tough to top Ohtani’s 50/50 season; however, he also topped Ronald Acuna’s 40/70 season in 2023. De La Cruz reached the 20/60 mark last season. Don’t be surprised if he tops that in 2025.
