Ancelotti’s future is under scrutiny after Real Madrid suffered their fifth defeat of the season. The “White Vultures” are four points behind Barcelona in La Liga and are 24th in the Champions League group stage , the last position eligible for the play-off round.

Real Madrid wants to appoint Zidane to replace coach Ancelotti

In a recent press conference, coach Ancelotti criticized the Spanish press for treating him unfairly. However, the Italian strategist has not been able to find balance in the squad since Kylian Mbappe arrived at Santiago Bernabeu, with cracks also appearing in the dressing room.

Spanish radio station Cadena SER reported that Zidane is considered one of three potential candidates to replace coach Ancelotti if Real Madrid decides to fire the Italian strategist, along with two other names, Raul and “former player” Santiago Solari.

Real Madrid are looking for an interim coach until the end of the season while waiting for Xabi Alonso in 2025. However, Zidane has ruled out the possibility of leading the “White Vultures” for a third term because he does not want to return to the Santiago Bernabeu on a short-term contract.

Zidane is one of the most successful coaches in Real Madrid’s history, winning 3 consecutive Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018, 2 La Liga, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 3 FIFA Club World Cups.

Real Madrid are unsure whether to appoint Solari as sporting director, as that would send a clear message that they expect to appoint Alonso next summer. Solari was appointed to lead the “White Vultures” in late October 2018 but was soon fired after just over four months in the job.

Raul could also be given the chance to step up from the Castilla youth team, but it would be difficult for Real Madrid to appoint Alonso as the replacement for the ‘Lord of the Rings’ if he is successful in the interim role.
