Sporting Lisbon honored Cristiano Ronaldo by unveiling their new third kit, featuring his son as the model for the No. 7-inspired jersey.
The kit is black with a gold streak shaped like a No. 7 across the front, complemented by gold detailing on the collar and sleeves.
Ronaldo made 31 appearances for Sporting, scoring five goals, before his £12 million transfer to Manchester United in 2003. There, he won three Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and the Ballon d’Or in 2008.
Reactions poured in on social media, with many fans praising the tribute to the all-time leading goal scorer. Some expressed high expectations for Cristiano Jr., with one user on X writing, “That’s awesome to honor the GOAT,” while another commented, “This is beautiful.” A third noted, “Big legacy,” acknowledging the pressure on Cristiano Jr. to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Cristiano Jr., now 14, currently plays in the youth setup for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, just like his father.
Sporting Lisbon’s promotional post read, “We are our legacy,” emphasizing the significance of the No. 7. The club explained, “There are numbers that leave a legacy because behind them, there are people who build it day after day.”
Since 2016, Cristiano Jr. has followed Ronaldo’s path, playing for the youth teams of his father’s clubs. He joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after Ronaldo’s controversial departure from United. Before that, he was with Real Madrid (2016-2018), Juventus (2018-2021), and Manchester United (2021-2022). In 2019, it was reported that he scored 58 goals in 28 matches with Juventus’ Under-9 team.
Recently, Ronaldo mentioned on his YouTube channel “UR Cristiano” with Mr. Beast the possibility of playing alongside his son one day, inspired by basketball star LeBron James sharing the court with his son Bronny for the LA Lakers in October. Mr. Beast asked, “It’s crazy how LeBron is playing with his son; are you looking to make that happen in football?”
