Erik ten Hag was photographed at his favorite restaurant in Manchester on Monday, only three weeks after being fired by Manchester United.

The Dutchman, whose two-and-a-half-year reign as Manchester United manager was abruptly ended after the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat over West Ham last month, flew to the Netherlands on a private jet mere hours after being fired.

Since Ten Hag’s departure, club great Ruud van Nistelrooy has overseen an undefeated stint as interim manager ahead of Ruben Amorim’s much-anticipated arrival in Manchester.

Ten Hag, 54, was joined by his wife Bianca for a lunch at his favorite restaurant, Piccolino in Hale Village. The couple is thought to have been clearing away possessions at their adjacent estate earlier that day.

During his two years in Manchester, the manager frequented the Italian restaurant, and he was photographed dining there after the Red Devils lost their first match against Brighton in April 2022. 

Ten Hag also had a celebratory supper at his favourite Italian restaurant following Manchester United’s stunning FA Cup victory against bitter rivals Liverpool last season.

He was joined by his wife Bianca, after emptying off his belongings at their adjacent mansion.

United won a seven-goal thriller despite falling down twice, with Amad Diallo scoring the winner in the 121st minute to set off ecstatic celebrations at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, overjoyed with the victory, traveled to Piccolino in Cheshire with his agent Kees Vos and other members of his management team.

His most recent visit occurred after Amorim, who started working for United last week, had his first training session at Carrington on Monday. 

The highly regarded Portuguese coach lacked a full group of first-team players to work with because many of his top players were on international assignment.

However, Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Leny Yoro all participated in Monday’s session.

During the session, Amorim appeared to field his strongest team against a young opponent.

Amorim played a 3-4-3 formation for the most of his 231 games in charge of Sporting, and it appears he intends to remain with that style.

His first test will be an away journey to Portman Road to play Ipswich Town on Sunday, when the Premier League resumes from its final international break of the year.

One of Amorim’s first acts as Red Devils manager was to remove Van Nistelrooy from his coaching staff. 

The former United striker, who was Ten Hag’s number two before becoming interim manager, had planned to stay at Old Trafford under Amorim but was deemed surplus to requirements by the Portuguese.

When Ten Hag was fired last month, the Red Devils issued the following statement: ‘Erik ten Hag has departed his post as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. 

Erik was appointed in April 2022 and has led the team to two domestic trophies: the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

‘We thank Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well in the future.’ 

It is known that United’s leadership team made a collaborative and unanimous decision, despite insiders describing it as “difficult and finely balanced.”

Despite winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his two seasons at Old Trafford, Ten Hag ended seventh in the Premier League last season with a negative goal difference.

He was given the opportunity to work in a new organization after Omar Berrada was appointed chief executive in the summer, along with new sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
