Manchester United had their eyes on Viktor Gyokeres on Saturday when Ruben Amorim’s top target scored his fifth goal of the Nations League season.

The Sporting Lisbon striker delivered another outstanding performance, scoring for Sweden in a 2-1 victory over Slovakia.

The former Coventry City player raced onto an Alexander Isak through ball before blasting past Slovakia keeper Martin Dubravka and into the bottom corner.

Souza confirmed his attendance at the game in an Instagram video post during the national anthems, though he was most likely scribbling notes by the time Gyokeres lit up the stadium with his next strike.

The 26-year-old is on track to outperform his amazing 43-goal debut season in Portuguese football, having scored 23 goals for Sporting this term.

His 16 Primeira Liga goals are twice as much as any other player in the league, and he has five Champions League goals in four games thus far.

Some of Europe’s biggest teams are ratcheting up their interest, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Campos apparently contacting his representatives.

Bayern Munich is also expected to bid if they want to sell Harry Kane this summer.

However, with Amorim at Old Trafford, United may have an advantage.

When questioned about a prospective move to Manchester United, Gyokeres replied, “He probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see. No, he has not [invited me to join him].

“It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”

In terms of signing players from his former club, Amorim stated, “In January I’m not going to get anyone from Sporting.”
