FIRST DAY: Ruben Amorim offers his Manchester United stars some much-needed TLC, as new boss sees Mainoo and Co for the first time

RUBEN AMORIM met many Manchester United players yesterday and immediately offered them some TLC.

The new Red Devils head coach was photographed greeting Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, Mason Mount, and Toby Collyer at Carrington.

Amorim, 39, welcomed Shaw, hugged Mainoo and Mount, laughed with £42 million summer acquisition Yoro, and spoke with Collyer.

The majority of United’s players are on international duty, but a few first-teamers have been working out in the gym.

Amorim, whose first match as manager is a Premier League trip to Ipswich on November 24, wasted little time making important decisions off the pitch.

Darren Fletcher survived Amorim’s sacking, unlike interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was fired on Monday in a move condemned by former Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand.

Stalwart Fletcher was on Erik ten Hag’s staff and plans to continue coaching.

The Scot had been technical director, but new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe placed Jason Wilcox in that position earlier this year, so the ex-midfielder moved into the backroom, where he is expected to remain.

Amorim is awaiting a visa before working with his squad, but he plans to bring in Sporting analyst Eduardo Rosalino.

RUBEN AMORIM has ruled out poaching any of his Sporting Lisbon players during the January transfer window.

However, the Portuguese side’s management expects Amorim to come calling in the summer, with his cheque book wide open.

Here are three Sporting players United might potentially sign. However, they will not come cheap:

Swede has shined since joining Sporting from Coventry last summer, attracting the attention of all Europe’s biggest clubs.

He scored 43 goals in 50 games last season and has 18 so far this season.

Gonzalo Inacio

Position: Defender.

Cost: £50 million.

Amorim gave the ball-playing centre-back his debut, and he has since become an important part of Sporting’s recent title victories.

Can also play left-back if needed, and has 12 caps for Portugal.

Morten Hjulmand.

Position: midfield

Cost: £40 million.

Dane is one of Portugal’s top holding midfielders, and Amorim has named him captain.

He could be Casemiro’s replacement.

The Portuguese want Premier League expertise on his staff, therefore Fletcher and set-piece coach Andreas Georgson are expected to stay.

Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Paulo Barreira, Emanuel Ferro, and Jorge Vital all accompanied Amorim to Manchester but have yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Ferdinand believes Amorim fired van Nistelrooy, who won three of four games as caretaker, because he felt threatened.

The Dutch club icon left, along with managers Rene Hake, Jelle van Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel.

Ferdinand stated, “It is not easy to go in and have one of the most productive scorers sitting next to you.

“Fans adore him. And if there are any stumbling blocks, they will tell you to bring Ruud on board as a manager.”

Tyrell Malacia, a left-back, overcame his 17-month injury nightmare by starting for the Under-21s in the EFL Trophy at Huddersfield Friday night.
