Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s soon-to-be new manager, is apparently contemplating a big transfer for Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is also a target for Liverpool.
Amorim has been formally appointed as Erik ten Hag’s successor, and he will take leadership of the Red Devils following this month’s international break.
The 39-year-old coach has already started discussing his transfer plans with the Manchester United board, and one of his top targets is to sign a new winger.
According to CaughtOffside, Amorim wants to buy a’special talent’ who will ‘light up Old Trafford’ and has identified Kvaratskhelia as a potential candidate.
Napoli have apparently placed a £90 million price tag on the Georgian international’s head, but this has not stopped Amorim, who ‘wants him to replace Man Utd disaster, Antony.’
Kvaratskhelia, 23, is under contract with Napoli until 2027, and Antonio Conte’s team is eager to lock him down to a new long-term contract.
However, those negotiations are currently at a ‘impasse’, giving Manchester United hope that they can reach a surprise agreement. Kvaratskhelia wants an affordable release clause incorporated in his contract, which Napoli is unwilling to agree to.
Manchester United will compete with Liverpool for the Napoli star, according to reports.
According to TEAMtalk sources, Liverpool has a strong interest in Kvaratskhelia. He is being considered by the Reds as they prepare for Mohamed Salah’s likely departure.
Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season, and TEAMtalk sources indicate he is unlikely to sign a deal with Liverpool, with clubs in the Saudi Pro League vying for his signature.
Kvaratskhelia is one replacement possibility being considered. While Liverpool has expressed an interest, we understand that their top three forward targets are currently Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane, and Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo.
The trio would all be less expensive than Kvaratskhelia, with Sane potentially available on a free transfer next summer if he does not sign a new contract with Bayern.
However, as Kvaratskhelia’s contract negotiations with Napoli continue, more and more clubs are expected to express an interest in signing him in 2025, therefore it will be intriguing to see how this narrative unfolds.
Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli in 2022 and has made 100 Serie A appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 28 assists.
Man Utd round-up: Four Man Utd stars under jeopardy; Sporting trio eyed
Meanwhile, sources have told TEAMtalk that Ruben Amorim has already informed the Manchester United board that four Red Devils players ‘don’t interest him’ and that he would be willing to trade in January.
The quartet consists of Antony, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelof. Eriksen and Lindelof are out of contract at the end of the season and will be allowed to go on free transfers if no bids are placed in January.
The Manchester United board agrees with Amorim that Antony and Casemiro’s performances do not represent their high weekly incomes of £200,000 and £350,000, respectively.
The club is consequently willing to trade both players this winter for roughly £25 million. We understand that Amorim wants to sign Sporting CP star Marcus Edwards to replace Antony, who has been linked with a move to previous club Tottenham.
In addition to Edwards, sources have told TEAMtalk that Amorim has requested Manchester United to inquire about signing Sporting CP players Pedro ‘Pote’ Goncavles and Goncalo Inacio.
