Anthony Martial has broken his duck for his new club after just three games since leaving Manchester United in the summer.
The French international had not scored in nearly a year, his last goal coming in a Premier League match against Everton in November 2023, which the Red Devils won 3-0.
Martial developed as one of the continent’s best young prospects at Monaco, sparking United’s interest.
The Red Devils then paid about £50.3 million for his services, with the agreement reportedly included a Ballon d’Or winning clause if the child went on to win football’s most prestigious individual trophy, indicating how highly he was regarded.
However, things did not go as planned for the attacker, who left United last summer with 90 goals in 317 appearances after failing to get a contract extension.
Anthony Martial completed his 11-month wait for a goal for his new club, AEK Athens, in the Greek Cup
Aris failed to clear a cross, thus the ball broke to Martial inside the area at the back post.
On the stroke of halftime, the French forward cushioned the ball and bundled it into the bottom corner.
Martial, on the other hand, only needed three games to settle in at his new club AEK Athens before scoring his first goal, and fans will be hoping that is just the beginning.
Martial broke the deadlock with an in-swinging cross just before halftime in a Greek Cup match against Aris of Thessaloniki.
The initial corner was cleared back to the taker, who swung the ball back into the danger zone.
It deflected beautifully off an Aris defender and into the path of Martial, who bundled home at the back stick after receiving an air-kick from one of his new teammates.
In celebration, his fellow AEK players gathered around him to congratulate him on scoring his first goal for the club, before the summer signing turned and pumped his hands in front of the crowd.
Martial also received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding effort against Aris.
Thousands of supporters met France’s Anthony Martial in Athens.
It was also his first start for the Greek giants, since he had previously appeared on the bench in two Super League games.
In fact, Martial was named Man of the Match in celebration of his outstanding performance.
