NEW ERA: Man United is ‘considering re-appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after sacking Erik ten Hag’ amid fears they may struggle to afford a working manager following large pay-out in recent firing

According to rumors, Manchester United have not ruled out making an approach for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after sacking Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was fired this morning after two and a half years in command, following a 2-1 defeat by West Ham that dropped United to 14th place in the Premier League.

United has won only three of their first nine Premier League games and is 21st in the new-look Europa League, having drawn their first three.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who returned to Old Trafford as part of Ten Hag’s rebuilt backroom team this summer, has been named interim manager.

According to the Manchester Evening News, club officials are anxious about their ability to buy out a coach’s contract.

Ten Hag blames VAR for Man United loss, which cost him his job.

Ten Hag may cost United about £17 million in compensation, potentially leading to a move for Solskjaer, who has been out of management since being fired by the Red Devils in November 2021. Indeed, he is considered to be in the running for a comeback.

However, it is unclear whether the Norwegian, another club legend, is seen as a viable long-term candidate for head coach or backroom staff member.

Solskjaer spent nine seasons with United as a player, winning six Premier League titles and scoring more than 100 goals to seal his place in Old Trafford history.

The 51-year-old took over as manager at the Theatre of Dreams in 2018 after a successful interim stint following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.

Despite guiding United to the Europa League final in 2020, he was fired by the club in November 2021 following a 4-0 loss to Watford.

Solskjaer recently stated that he would be open to returning to United.

When asked about taking the job by Norwegian broadcaster NRK in September, Solskjaer replied: “If your family needs you, they will help.”
