MANCHESTER UNITED faced a disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at Old Trafford.
The match turned sour for Erik Ten Hag’s squad when captain Bruno Fernandes received a red card in the first half for a foul on James Maddison, leaving them a man down against Ange Postecoglou’s side. After recent draws against Crystal Palace and FC Twente, fans were hoping for a resurgence against Spurs.
However, the game quickly deteriorated. Brennan Johnson scored early, and with Fernandes’s expulsion, Spurs capitalized and extended their lead to 3-0.
Here’s how Charlie Wyett from SunSports rated the Manchester United players:
- Andre Onana – 5: Made a crucial save from Timo Werner but had no chance with the goals conceded.
- Noussair Mazraoui – 5: Booked early for a foul on Destiny Udogie and failed to block Micky van de Ven’s shot.
- Matthijs de Ligt – 4: Struggled in the first half, failing to intercept the cross that led to the opening goal.
- Lisandro Martinez – 5: Lost concentration for the Spurs goal, allowing Johnson to slip through unmarked.
- Diogo Dalot – 5: Gave away possession in risky areas and had difficulty dealing with Johnson’s pace.
- Manuel Ugarte – 5: Had a challenging match and was lucky to stay on until the 73rd minute.
- Kobbie Mainoo – 5: Not at his best, substituted just before halftime, possibly due to an injury.
- Marcus Rashford – 5: Overran the ball leading to the first goal and was not up to speed.
- Bruno Fernandes – 4: Arguably one of the least effective captains in United’s history; the red card was warranted.
- Alejandro Garnacho – 6: Offered United’s only first-half chance, hitting the post, and showed improvement in the second half.
- Joshua Zirkzee – 5: Looked out of sorts in attack, raising concerns about another questionable Erik Ten Hag signing; replaced at halftime.
Substitutes:
- Mount (for Mainoo 45) – 5
- Casemiro (for Zirkzee 46) – 7
- Hojlund (for Rashford 73) – 5
- Eriksen (for Ugarte 73) – 5
