Man Utd Player Ratings: Improved Rashford stakes England claim in front of Lee Carsley as Zirkzee is hooked again after being held by FC Twente at Old Trafford in their opening Europa League game 😳

Manchester United’s Europa League season began with a disappointing 1-1 tie against Twente at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen opened the score after 35 minutes, demonstrating why United is among the favourites to win the championship this season.

However, on 68 minutes, Sam Lammers equalised for the visitors, becoming the latest team to stun Erik ten Hag.

The setback dashes the Red Devils’ ambitions of finishing in the top eight in the League Phase, which would secure a spot in the Europa League’s Last 16 and save them two extra games.

But who stood out for Manchester United? Who failed to live up to expectations? Here’s how Martin Blackburn ranks each of Ten Hag’s players:

ANDRE ONANA – 6

Good save to push Sem Steijn’s free-kick to safety, although he may be frustrated to be beaten at the near post for Twente’s goal.

DIOGO DALOT – 6

An early mistake at the corner flag could have been costly, but he created problems at the opposite end in the buildup to Christian Eriksen’s goal.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 6

Missed his tackle, putting United on the back foot for the equaliser, but nearly won late on with a header saved off the line.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 7

Made several key clearances, although a rash challenge on the edge of his box could have been costly.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI – 6.

The new boy appears to be well-built. A crucial early tackle, followed by another, prevented Twente from gaining the lead.

Christian Eriksen – 7.

The veteran made his fourth consecutive start and still looked sprightly. What a strike to give United the lead, only to be spoilt by a blunder for the equaliser.

Manuel Ugarte – 6.

The new youngster made a couple decent tackles, but he may have been upset not to clear his lines as Twente burst away for the equaliser.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 8.

Much improved performance in front of England interim manager Lee Carsley. Full of intensity, a few tricks, and several risky crossings. More like his old self.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 6

Skipper played a role in the opening goal and came close to winning it with a curler from the edge of the area.

AMAD DIALLO – 6

His pace proved too much for the visitors at times, but he produced little this time and was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho midway through the second half.

JOSHUA ZIRKZEE (5)

After a wonderful link up with Diogo Dalot, they forced a flying save from the visitors’ keeper before hooking for the fit-again Rasmus Hojlund.

KOBBIE MAINOO for Eriksen 78–5.

He went to the ground too easily once he saw the goal.

Mason Mount led Zirkzee to a 79-5 victory and created a late opportunity for Garnacho.
