Man City, as usual, rushed to attack immediately after the opening whistle. Inter Milan quickly organised a big defensive formation in front of custodian Sommer’s goal, as if they had planned it carefully.
Haaland remained quiet against Inter Milan’s defence.
It wasn’t until the 24th minute that Manchester City produced their first significant opportunity. De Bruyne skilfully flicked the ball past the whole Inter Milan defence, but with no one to mark him, Savinho fired high into the heavens. Just five minutes later, custodian Ederson made a mistake and nearly paid the price, if not for Gvardiol’s excellent save.
Inter Milan defenders kept a tight eye on Haaland throughout the game. The Norwegian striker’s diagonal effort sailed outside of the post in the 35th minute, despite goalkeeper Sommer’s anchored position. At the end of the first half, custodian Sommer made a mistake, but he made amends by stopping De Bruyne’s one-on-one opportunity.
Inter Milan had a fantastic opportunity to go ahead against Manchester City early in the second half. Taremi transferred the ball to Darmian in an open position during a counter-attack. However, instead of facing goalkeeper Ederson, the Italian international strangely backheeled the ball to the second line.
In the remaining time, Manchester City and Inter Milan played tit-for-tat for each other’s goals. However, both teams’ forwards lacked finishing ability, resulting in a goalless draw.
