STAIRWAY TO NEV-EN: Man Utd star Gary Neville appears to make a BIG career change by joining INDIE BAND as a bass player, with a UK tour scheduled for next year

GARY NEVILLE has joined indie rockers The Reytons and claims to be their new bass player.

The former Manchester United right-back posed with the Yorkshire band as they prepare to tour in 2025.

Neville, 49, is filling in for Lee Holland, who is out with a broken arm. He has never played the bass before.

The Rotherham rockers are gearing up for a UK tour next year to promote their latest record.

They also uploaded a video of Neville’s audition for the trio as they searched for Holland’s replacement.

In the video, Neville tells the band, “If Lee can play for The Reytons, then so can I.”

The Sky Sports pundit was put through his paces during the test, demonstrating his dance talents and being asked how quickly he could swallow a pint.

He was also challenged to a game of Higher or Lower before choosing a fatty burger dinner over a salad in a blind taste test.

Following his trial, lead vocalist Jonny Yerrell told Neville: “You’ve literally checked every box there, mate.

“But I think the only question is now, you know, what’re you actually like on bass?”

Neville said sheepishly: “I’ve never played bass in my life.”

Yerrell responded with a smile: “You’re in.”

One fan commented on X, “This is absolutely class chaps.”

Another person laughed and said, “This is the best video I have ever seen.”

Fans hoping to see the former Three Lions star perform with the band next year may be disappointed.

A disclaimer was included to the whole press release: “Gary Neville may or may not actually be joining The Reytons.”

Neville performed at last month’s Kendal Calling music event before pulling off the trick.

He performed in front of 40,000 people, including Manchester music legend Tim Burgess.

Prior to the assignment, Neville said that being a DJ for the day was absolutely out of his comfort zone.

He told the Football, Music, and Me podcast: “After I concluded my football career, I did a lot of things to push myself out of my comfort zone.

“I’m actually DJing with Tim at Kendal Calling. What the hell am I doing?” I’m trying to negotiate my way out of it, but once I say yes, I can’t back out.

“Obviously, Tim has played thousands of times; I’ll just be accompanying him. To be honest, I’m worried about what I have to do.

The Reytons Right Back At It tour will commence in February 2025 at London’s O2 Academy Brixton.

The band will perform at Bournemouth, Blackpool, Newcastle, Dublin, Birmingham, and Manchester.
