Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has hinted that the club is bracing itself for a future without Mohamed Salah. Although Salah was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer, he stayed at Anfield. With his contract expiring in 2025 and no extension in sight, speculation about his departure is set to intensify.

In a recent chat with Abema Sports Time, Endo suggested that Liverpool are already on the lookout for a potential successor to Salah, noting, “The search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah has begun, so this is becoming a real area for Liverpool to strengthen.”

Endo also pointed to a specific player he believes could step into Salah’s shoes: “I think the player who can replace him, in the national team, would be [Takefusa] Kubo.”

So, who is Takefusa Kubo?

Kubo, a 23-year-old right-winger, has had an intriguing career trajectory. His journey started in Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before he signed with Real Madrid in 2019. Although he was expected to initially join Real Madrid’s B team, Kubo was loaned out to RCD Mallorca, followed by Villarreal and Getafe, to gain valuable experience.

In 2022, Kubo made a permanent move to Real Sociedad, becoming the club’s first Japanese player. His impact was immediate, with 16 goals and 14 assists in 85 appearances, and notable Champions League experience. His performances suggest he’s ready for a more prominent role, potentially making him an attractive option for Liverpool as they plan for a post-Salah future.
