MATTHIJS DE LIGT had an X-rated reaction to his performance in the Netherlands’ Nations League opener.

The Manchester United defender was at blame for both Bosnia and Herzegovina’s goals in Eindhoven on Saturday night.

However, he was saved by his teammates, who slammed five past their opponents in a decisive triumph.

De Ligt’s club teammate Joshua Zirkzee had opened the score before being caught off guard for the visitors’ equaliser.

The centre-back’s poor positioning allowed Ermedin Demirovic to get onside before he slotted past Bart Verbruggen.

It was his error once more that allowed Edin Dzeko to cut the margin in the second half.

De Ligt let a cross into the penalty area go across his body to Dzeko, who controlled and prodded the ball into the net.

Verbruggen could be seen berating the 25-year-old following the goal, which had no bearing on the outcome.

Speaking after the game, De Ligt, who had been on the bench for the Dutch during the Euros, confessed his unhappiness with his performance, saying: “I guess you know how I feel, we won, but then comes the individual aspect.

“What if this game is a missed opportunity for me?” I’m not sure; I just strive to do my best.”

Meanwhile, fans reacted quickly to his horror show on social media, with one asking, “Who was De Ligt actually marking and running to?”

Another quipped about “De Ligt masterclass,” using a sequence of crying laughing emoticons.

However, after the match, De Ligt’s manager defended him, while Ronald Koeman downplayed his shortcomings.

When asked if he was concerned about his performance, the Dutch manager responded: “He recognises that he was in the incorrect place.

“This should not happen, but mistakes are unavoidable in football. I think it’s unjust to make a big issue about it.”

De Ligt made his 45th international appearance in the 5-2 victory, and he will look to add to his total against Germany on Tuesday.

He is a recent arrival at Old Trafford, having joined United from Bayern Munich for £60 million in the summer.

The former Ajax player has already made three appearances, his first coming in a 3-0 loss to Liverpool before the international break.
