A PITCH invader attempted to hug Cristiano Ronaldo as he joined the Portuguese attack in their victory over Scotland.

Ronaldo scored for his country for the second time in four days, maintaining their perfect Nations League record.

In the 88th minute, the superstar knocked in Nuno Mendes’ low cross to secure the game.

A few minutes later, with the clock ticking down in stoppage time, a fan entered the pitch in an attempt to reach Ronaldo.

It occurred while Portugal was on the attack, with CR7 attempting to add a third goal.

The pitch invader missed Ronaldo on his first attempt but was given another chance to reach his idol due to a misfortune by his pursuer.

A steward chased the supporter across the grass, but slipped onto his backside at a critical point.

That gave the fan the opportunity to go closer to Ronaldo, but the former Real Madrid star was having none of it and kept his distance.

Fans considered the episode entertaining, however others were angry that Ronaldo was unable to add to his goal count after scoring his 901st goal against the Scots.
