Manchester United’s CEO, Omar Berrada, has reaffirmed that manager Erik ten Hag retains the full support of the club’s leadership, despite the recent 0-3 defeat to Liverpool on September 1.
Berrada emphasized, “Our backing for Erik ten Hag remains unwavering. The entire team is collaborating closely during this transfer period, and the board will keep a close eye to ensure Erik achieves the best possible outcomes.”
This statement marks the first public endorsement of ten Hag by the club’s hierarchy, as reported by the Telegraph. When queried about the continued trust in the Dutch manager amid the team’s poor form, Berrada responded, “Absolutely. We firmly believe Erik ten Hag is the right fit for Manchester United, and we are fully committed to supporting him.”
Following the heavy loss to Liverpool, ten Hag’s position has become increasingly precarious, with his chances of being dismissed rising sharply. He now tops the list of managers most likely to be sacked. So far, Manchester United has managed just one win in three games, with two consecutive defeats.
Prior to the Liverpool setback, ten Hag’s squad had also fallen 1-2 to Brighton. The media is growing increasingly skeptical about ten Hag’s future, suggesting that his tactics and strategy are failing to make an impact.
In his third season with Manchester United, ten Hag has yet to establish a distinct playing philosophy. Meanwhile, Liverpool, under Arne Slot, has managed to outplay United without significant squad enhancements, highlighting the ongoing struggles of ten Hag’s tenure.
