Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 899th career goal in Al-Nassr’s victory over Al Feiha on Tuesday.

After Talisca put the visitors ahead at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium, Ronaldo has a chance to double their lead following a foul on the edge of the box.

The 39-year-old opted for placement above power, curling his strike beyond the wall and into the top corner to the goalkeeper’s left.

Ronaldo scored his 64th free-kick goal, putting him only one behind fellow set-piece specialist and Premier League leader David Beckham in career totals.

The goal came less than two weeks after Ronaldo was criticised on social media for sending a set-piece balloon over the bar during the Saudi Super Cup semi-finals.

The 39-year-old’s first-half free-kick represented the 899th goal of his remarkable career.

Before taking the strike, he assured himself in Portuguese, ‘I’m the best.’

However, his subsequent effort left much to be desired, as he soared well above the gold and failed to provoke a response from the custodian. 

While the Portuguese forward’s free-kick record puts him on par with some of the game’s greats, he still has some work to do if he wants to achieve the all-time mark before hanging up his boots.

Juninho Pernambucano, best known for his eight-year stint at Lyon, is now the most productive player in football history in dead ball situations.

The former Brazil international scored 198 career goals, 77 of which were from free kicks.

Lionel Messi, Ronaldo’s long-time nemesis, leads the way among active players, with 65 free-kick goals in his dazzling career.

Marcelo Brozovic scored Al-Nassr’s third, and Talisca added his second of the game in stoppage time to complete the thrashing.

Ronaldo has scored in both of Al-Nassr’s Saudi Pro League games this season. 

Ronaldo is now only one goal behind David Beckham and Lionel Messi in the all-time free kick standings.

Speaking about his future ambitions, he said that he could stay with the club for the rest of his career: “I’m not sure if I’ll retire soon, in two or three years… but I’ll probably retire here at Al Nassr.”

‘I’m extremely satisfied at this club, and I feel good in this country. I’m glad to be playing in Saudi Arabia and hope to continue,” he said.
