MANUEL UGARTE will go to England TODAY ahead of his transfer to Manchester United, according to sources.
The Red Devils have been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for weeks about a transaction.
However, El Pais adds that a few small matters need to be worked out.
Ugarte was left out of Luis Enrique’s PSG squad for the first two games of the season due to transfer speculation.
Personal terms with the Uruguay international have been agreed upon for some time, and after landing in England, he is scheduled to complete his physical with the club today.
The figure was the stumbling block to a deal, with the French club wanting a set £51 million for the 23-year-old – the same amount they paid to sign him from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.
That sparked speculation of a loan with an obligation to buy next summer.
However, the anticipated sale of Scott McTominay to Napoli for £25 million will make the move permanent almost immediately.
Ugarte will become Manchester United’s sixth senior signing this summer once the deal, worth £42 million plus £8.5 million in add-ons, is completed.
He joins Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui in expanding Erik ten Hag’s team.
The club believes Ugarte is one of the best young midfielders in the world, which is confirmed by his superb exploits for Uruguay in this summer’s Copa America.
Alternative possibilities, including new Fulham star Sander Berge, were considered, and a re-signing of Sofyan Amrabat was not ruled out, according to The Athletic.
Ugarte, who made 37 appearances for PSG last season, is anticipated to replace Casemiro in the starting lineup.
His numbers from previous season match up well against his new Manchester United teammates.
