Napoli is closing in on a transfer deal for Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, with a £25 million fee reportedly agreed upon. The deal includes a clause that will grant Manchester United a percentage of the fee if McTominay is sold by Napoli in the future. Both clubs are now waiting for McTominay to give his consent for the move.
McTominay, who has attracted interest from Fulham this summer, is set to see his contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season. Although United holds an option to extend his contract by an additional year, they are inclined to sell him now. Since McTominay is a product of United’s youth academy, his transfer would be considered “pure profit,” helping the club adhere to Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The Athletic reports that Napoli’s Giovanni Manna has traveled to Manchester this week to finalize the agreement. The 27-year-old Scot has been with Manchester United since he was five, making 255 appearances and scoring 29 goals.
Manchester United plans to reinvest the proceeds from McTominay’s sale into signing PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, who is their top target for the midfield. They are preparing to offer £51 million for Ugarte, who is reportedly eager to join United.
Meanwhile, Napoli representatives have also been in England this week to explore deals with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Brighton’s Billy Gilmour.
