Ben Chilwell has reportedly been offered to Manchester United after being informed that he’s not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea. Chilwell has been training separately from the first-team squad, alongside other prominent players like Raheem Sterling.
TalkSPORT suggests that United now has the chance to acquire the 27-year-old left-back. The Red Devils had previously shown interest in Chilwell this summer due to their persistent issues at left-back.
With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both sidelined, Erik ten Hag was forced to deploy Diogo Dalot on the left flank in their match against Fulham. Chelsea is reportedly willing to let Chilwell move on if a reasonable offer is made.
Chilwell is also weighing his transfer options after being omitted from Chelsea’s season opener. Marc Cucurella was chosen over him for Sunday’s loss to Manchester City, with Maresca indicating that Chilwell doesn’t fit his tactical system.
Maresca confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Chilwell and other excluded players are training apart, with no new updates on their status. He added, “They remain Chelsea players until they are not. But it’s impossible to give everyone minutes. Those who seek playing time are better off seeking opportunities elsewhere.”
Chilwell will be absent again for Thursday’s Conference League clash against Servette. Having joined Chelsea in 2020 and signed an extension through 2027 last April, Chilwell has contributed nine goals and 12 assists in 106 appearances for the club. However, persistent knee and hamstring injuries limited him to just 13 league appearances last season.
