The reigning Bundesliga champions are making moves to acquire Liverpool’s up-and-coming center-back, Sepp van den Berg.

Bayer Leverkusen is showing keen interest in the 22-year-old as they look to bolster their defense amid possible summer departures. However, Sky Germany reports that the German club has yet to make any official contact with Liverpool regarding Van den Berg.

With an estimated transfer fee of around €25 million, Leverkusen will face strong competition from Brentford in the battle for the Dutch defender. A silver lining for Leverkusen is that Van den Berg appears eager to return to the Bundesliga, having previously spent two seasons on loan with Schalke and Mainz. During these stints, he showcased his talent, albeit with teams fighting to avoid relegation.

This potential acquisition might also open the door for Leverkusen’s two standout center-backs from last season, Piero Hincapie and Odilon Kossounou, to seek new opportunities.
