The PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year includes Phil Foden, four Manchester City title winners, and five Arsenal stars. But one Gunners favourite and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer are SNUBBED after excellent performances

Phil Foden has been named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time, following his outstanding exploits that helped Manchester City achieve a record-breaking fourth consecutive title.

Foden was named to the team at the annual PFA awards ceremony on Tuesday, when he was also voted PFA Player of the Year.

His participation came after a string of excellent performances last season, during which he scored 19 league goals in 27 games, including a final-day brace against West Ham to secure Man City’s title.

Premier League players vote for the Player of the Year award, and the team of the year is made up of the most popular choices.

Foden is joined by three Manchester City teammates, including golden boot winner Erling Haaland, who earned a second consecutive selection after scoring 27 goals last season.

Despite finishing as Premier League runners-up, Arsenal has five more players in the Team of the Year than champions Manchester City.

Their solid defensive record has been highlighted, with the Gunners conceding only 29 goals last season.

This has resulted in the participation of custodian David Raya, who won the golden glove after preserving 16 clean sheets in the league.

Raya has also succeeded teammate Aaron Ramsdale, who was selected custodian for last year’s team.

Arsenal’s centre-back duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes has been included. Saliba, who played every minute of the Premier League season, returns for the second consecutive year.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk rounds up the defensive, joining Walker, Saliba, and Gabriel.

Two Gunners players join Rodri in the midfield, with Declan Rice getting the nod after a strong debut season at the club following his £105 million move from West Ham.

Rice is joined by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who receives his second consecutive selection.

Man City’s Foden and Haaland are joined in assault by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The England attacker scored 19 goals and assisted 16 times, helping Aston Villa finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.

Watkins’ participation alongside Foden and Haaland leaves no room for Arsenal favourite Bukayo Saka and Chelsea standout Cole Palmer.

Saka gets left out despite scoring 16 goals and giving nine assists during the season.

He was Arsenal’s leading Premier League scorer last season, and only Odegaard has more assists in the squad.

Palmer, who was named the PFA Young Player of the Year, did not make the team.

Despite the Blues’ difficult record, the 22-year-old had a remarkable debut season at Stamford Bridge after joining from Manchester City for £42.5 million, scoring 22 goals and assisting 11 others.
