After failing to secure Martin Zubimendi this summer, Liverpool are still determined to bolster Arne Slot’s squad with the right addition.
Slot fielded Ryan Gravenberch as Liverpool’s central midfielder against Ipswich Town on Saturday, and the Dutchman made a notable impact in the second half. Despite this, Liverpool would benefit from further reinforcements, particularly in central defense and on the wing.
Ibrahima Konate’s substitution of Jarell Quansah at halftime highlighted Slot’s ongoing uncertainty about the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk.
According to TBR Football, Liverpool are now considering a daring move for Ademola Lookman, who could provide a boost to Slot’s attacking options. Lookman, who moved from Everton to RB Leipzig for £23 million in 2019, currently plays for Atalanta in Serie A. He was notably absent from Atalanta’s squad for their season opener due to speculation about his future.
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been updated on Lookman’s situation in Italy this summer. Lookman requested to be left out of Atalanta’s match against Lecce due to growing interest, especially from Paris Saint-Germain.
While these Premier League clubs have shown interest, none have yet pursued the matter further. Lookman himself appears keen on a move to Paris and has expressed his preference to Atalanta’s management.
Atalanta is reportedly seeking around €60 million (£51 million) for Lookman, a significant sum given they are also facing the potential departure of Teun Koopmeiners—another player linked with Liverpool.
Though Koopmeiners seems more likely to join Juventus than Liverpool, a transfer for Lookman could stir mixed reactions among Liverpool fans, some of whom may still recall his stint with Everton.
Regardless, adding Lookman could be a valuable move for Liverpool as they navigate a demanding season.
