Manchester United have initiated their first offer for Burnley’s Sander Berge, according to recent reports.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new midfielder to bolster their squad and rectify last season’s lackluster performance. Among the midfielders they are considering are Berge and PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.

Ugarte, who was excluded from PSG’s lineup for their Ligue 1 debut in light of Manchester United’s interest, is believed to be their primary target. However, due to a significant gap in valuation between United and PSG, the focus may be shifting towards Berge.

The Mail reports that United have made a bid for Berge, but their offer falls short of Burnley’s £30 million asking price. Despite this, discussions over personal terms are reportedly progressing smoothly, with Berge enthusiastic about a potential move to United on a contract offering £100,000 per week.

United are prepared to bid around £20 million for the Norwegian midfielder, but this figure still does not meet Burnley’s valuation.

The Mail further indicates that Ugarte remains United’s preferred choice if PSG is willing to reduce their £52 million price tag, which is the same amount PSG paid to secure him from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

United have already splurged over £150 million this summer on new acquisitions, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui. There could be some outgoings before the transfer window closes, with ongoing speculation about Scott McTominay’s future. The 27-year-old academy graduate is reportedly drawing interest from Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Brighton, all keen to sign him if he departs Old Trafford.
