Fernandes, who became club captain at the start of last season, has signed a contract to stay at Old Trafford until 2027.

Fernandes’ new deal includes an option for an additional year, and he expressed his excitement at putting pen to paper.

He stated, “Everyone knows my passion for Manchester United.”

“I recognise the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, as well as the devotion and drive required to represent this magnificent club.

“I’ve already had so many memorable memories here, including hearing my name screamed from the Stretford End, scoring a hat trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European evenings, and hoisting trophies at Wembley.

“But I wouldn’t have accepted this contract unless I believed that my best moments in a United shirt were still to come.

“From my meetings with the football leadership and management, it is evident that everyone is committed to compete for significant trophies in the next years.

Manchester United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, praised Bruno for his consistent high-level performance since joining the club.

“He is an excellent leader who sets the daily standards and inspires the players and staff to perform at their best every day.”

“Bruno’s passion to the club exemplifies what it means to be a United player.

“He remains pivotal to everything that we want to achieve here, and we look forward to working together to deliver the success that this club demands.”

Fernandes was a standout player for United this season

Fernandes’ new contract means he is now the club’s highest paid player, alongside Casemiro, earning £350,000 a week.

Fernandes was the standout performer for United this season.

The Portuguese previously earned £220,000 a week and said he will think about his future this summer.

Bayern Munich was apparently interested in the playmaker, while Barcelona was also linked with a move this summer.
