Manchester United is looking to offload players this summer to generate funds, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is poised to make a move. The transfer of the Manchester United defender to West Ham is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday.
Sources at the club have suggested that the timing of Wan-Bissaka’s move to London was uncertain for Monday, but they confirmed that negotiations are progressing smoothly. West Ham is preparing to finalize a £15 million deal for Wan-Bissaka, and his departure will enable United to pursue Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Wan-Bissaka’s contract, which was extended by a year in January, has paved the way for his sale as United looks to recoup some of the investment. The 26-year-old has spent five years with Manchester United, securing both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
Acquired for £50 million from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019, Wan-Bissaka’s place was challenged when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sought Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. Although he eventually lost his starting role to Diogo Dalot, Wan-Bissaka made a notable comeback following the 2022 World Cup. By the end of Erik ten Hag’s inaugural season, he had reclaimed his position as the primary right-back, although he continued to face competition from Dalot throughout the 2023/24 season.
Despite his struggles in offensive roles, Wan-Bissaka excelled defensively, particularly in one-on-one situations, and was considered among the Premier League’s finest in this aspect. His contributions were pivotal in United’s Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs in 2023 and 2024. Notably, he marked Allan Saint-Maximin out of the Carabao Cup final and contained Jeremy Doku in the FA Cup final.
Wan-Bissaka’s last competitive game for Manchester United was the FA Cup final. Although he joined the pre-season tour in the United States, he missed the Community Shield defeat. He departs after 190 appearances and two goals for the club.
