Gary Neville made his DJ debut today, hitting the decks alongside Tim Burgess, the charismatic frontman of The Charlatans, at the Kendal Calling festival in Cumbria. The festival, which has seen performances by Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds, The Streets, Paolo Nutini, and Sugababes, also welcomed the former Manchester United star into the musical fold.
While Neville is used to the grandeur of performing in front of 70,000 fans at Old Trafford, today’s experience presented a new challenge. Amidst a sea of festival-goers in a packed tent, Neville was seen enthusiastically heading a beach ball into the crowd and grooving to the beats.
Neville had confessed earlier this year that DJing was uncharted territory for him. On Geoff Shreeves’ podcast, Football, Music and Me, he revealed, “After retiring from football, I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. DJing with Tim at Kendal Calling? It’s surreal. I’m trying to back out, but once I commit, there’s no turning back.”
Tim Burgess expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “I’m really looking forward to DJing with Gary—he has an excellent taste in music. The last time we performed together, he joined us on guitar. While we might not have a planned set, an impromptu singalong could be on the cards.”
