Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have had a rough season by their lofty standards, and there may be several changes at the club.
The club’s hierarchy may prioritize a new defensive midfielder, and Fofana is rumored to be approached.
United have gained a boost in their chase after Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro admitted that Fofana could leave the club this summer.
He stated, “There were excellent opportunities for him to depart last summer. He chose to stay because of his personal aspirations.”
“It was a very good decision for us because he had a very good and consistent season, and for him as well because it was probably his best season at AS Monaco.”
“He is definitely one of the guys we are willing to sell. We’ll see what opportunities he has. It is still too early to decide.”
Fofana would make a terrific cost-effective signing.
Casemiro has endured a difficult second season at United. The Brazilian was caught out of position and lost speed.
Fofana would be a valuable addition to the roster. Last season, the Frenchman averaged a remarkable 7.2 recoveries and 1.9 tackles in Ligue 1.
The 25-year-old won 50 percent of his duels, averaging 1.2 takedowns per game. The former Strasbourg man also contributed eight goals.
Fofana has similar playing characteristics to Casemiro but with higher mobility and work rate.
Monaco currently values him at €30 million (£26 million), and his contract will expire in June 2025.
He would be a fantastic value signing for United to bolster their defensive midfield.
