Sources tell ESPN’s Zach Lowe that the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs are among the clubs interested in trade for Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen.
The Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings are also interested in acquiring the Finnish forward, according to Lowe.
However, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Jazz are unwilling to move Markkanen.
Utah, which finished 12th in the Western Conference last season with a 31-51 record, is expected to move Markkanen if it wants to rebuild completely.
Markkanen will become extension-eligible in August and will be paid just $18 million next season, the final year of his contract.
Although Markkanen failed not match his All-Star performance from his Utah debut season in 2022-23, the 27-year-old still averaged 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in 2023-24 on 48% shooting and 39.9% from deep.
Despite being 7 feet, Markkanen’s lack of rim protection has landed him in the fourth slot. Markkanen, along with Kings’ Domantas Sabonis, Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, and Heat’s Bam Adebayo, could be a starting forward for any of three clubs. He might be a small-ball centre for Golden State.
