In the Copa America 2024 quarterfinal against Ecuador, Lisandro Martinez, the defender for Argentina, scored the first goal for his team. 

During the match, in the 35th minute, Lionel Messi scored another goal from a corner kick that was redirected by Alexis Mac Allister, who leaped above Martinez.

The Manchester United center back then aggressively headed the ball towards the goal. Despite Alexander Dominguez, the Ecuadorian goalkeeper, trying to punch it out, the ball was securely inside the net.

Martinez debuted internationally for Argentina on March 22, 2019, during a friendly match against Venezuela, which Argentina lost 1-3.

Before the quarterfinal against Ecuador, Martinez had played in 20 matches for Argentina, including appearances in the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
