Executives across the NBA believe the Jazz are likely to move the one-time All-Star, who has spent the previous two seasons in Utah.
During his time with the Jazz, the former first-round pick averages 24.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range.
In his first season with the Jazz, he was named an All-Star, and in 2022-23, he received the league’s Most Improved Player title. He did not make the All-Star team this season, but he was still rather effective in 55 games.
Markkanen seems to be a solid fit for both the Spurs and the Warriors. He’d be able to help both teams stretch the floor and rebound well. A frontcourt tandem of him and Victor Wembanyama for the Spurs would be intimidating, especially given their shooting abilities.
In addition to Stephen Curry, he would provide the Warriors with another solid scorer. Golden State is expected to lose franchise legend Klay Thompson this offseason. Thompson has a lot of suitors across the league and appears like he’ll be wearing anything other than a Warriors uniform for the first time this season.
Thompson, whose father wishes to see him play for the Los Angeles Lakers, is reportedly “intrigued” by the prospect of joining the Purple and Gold. Only time will tell where he goes this offseason.
Returning to Markkanen, he is currently in the final year of his contract. With the way he’s played over the last two seasons, he’ll undoubtedly receive a significant wage rise when he signs his next contract. The Finnish forward is expected to earn approximately $18 million for the 2024-25 season.
It will be fascinating to watch how much money he receives on his next contract and whether he remains with the Jazz at that time.
