Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has revealed what he has planned for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho as the Copa America event approaches.

The 2024 CONMEBOL season began on June 20, and Argentina is considered the clear favourite to win the championship.

Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez will be the two United players on the Albiceleste roster.

Scaloni announced his final 26-man squad earlier on Saturday, and Martinez and Garnacho were among those who made the cut, while Leo Balerdi, Valentin Barco, and Angel Correa did not.

Garnacho has yet to establish himself on the international scene, as he has done at club level. Under Scaloni, the Carrington academy graduate has only appeared five times for 166 minutes of action.

Scaloni has frequently relied on older and more experienced players, resulting in restricted playing time for Garnacho and other Argentine teenagers.

However, according to Argentina’s manager, it’s all part of the plan, and there’s a procedure in place to ensure Garnacho is properly prepared for his promotion.

Scaloni stated of Garnacho before his team’s Copa America match against Guatemala: “He’s fine, he’s training with us.”

“He’s a man who, as I mentioned the other day, should not only not burn in stages but also come in when we believe he can do it in a match. It did not happen that way against Ecuador, but if it does tomorrow, we will give him minutes.”

“He is a boy for whom we have high aspirations. We have to carry him in the way we think with the entire coaching team, talking to him and pressing that he does certain things more frequently.”

“He has one-on-one, he is quick, and that is what he needs to do more often. That’s what we try to talk him into doing.”

Lionel Messi and Alejandro Garnacho’s team has already won the Selección – Diario Río Negro.

Argentina defeated Guatemala 4-1 on Saturday, with Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez both scoring braces. Guatemala scored only once, on an own goal by Martinez.

Garnacho remained on the bench and received no playing time.
