The Portuguese coach was announced as Fenerbahce’s manager amid tremendous hoopla among the club’s supporters in Istanbul. His unveiling was accompanied by tens of thousands of people.

It’s unknown what Ferguson and Mourinho talked about before the game, but could Manchester United have been on the agenda?

The two had already discussed United. Ferguson recommended Mourinho to buy Dele Alli for the Red Devils, as the Portuguese stated in an episode of Amazon’s All or Nothing.

There is a lot to debate right now. Erik ten Hag will continue at Old Trafford after the club concluded he was the best candidate to lead them ahead following a review process.

Despite sounding out possible contenders following a poor season at Old Trafford in which his side finished eighth, the Premier League heavyweights have thrown their weight behind the Dutchman and are discussing a new contract.

According to Mail Sport insiders, ten Hag’s case was boosted by the club’s shocking FA Cup Final victory over rivals City.

Ferguson once advised Mourinho to sign Dele Alli for the Red Devils - could they have been discussing Manchester United once again?

United executives consulted with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS about potential candidates such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Thomas Frank.

Mail Sport understands that United officials want to see how Ten Hag performs under what they believe will be a new framework aimed at giving him the best chance to succeed.

=Sir Jim Ratcliffe has abandoned his quest for a new boss, with Ten Hag set for a fresh contract.

=Considerations for United’s inconsistent season, such as an ever-growing injury list and teething issues with a number of new recruits, are likely to have influenced INEOS’ decision.

Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, two of the club’s big purchases before the start of last season, struggled before rediscovering form, while Mason Mount, who the club paid £60 million for from Premier League rivals Chelsea, has been injured for much of his time in Manchester.

Despite a punishing lack of availability at times, Ten Hag has been praised for his development of young players, with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho standing out during the 2023-24 season.

On July 13, Omar Berrada, chief executive of Manchester City, will arrive. Jason Wilcox has already been appointed technical director, while talks are underway to bring Dan Ashworth from Newcastle to Old Trafford as sporting director.

Discussions with Ten Hag are said to have been positive, with both the club and the manager in agreement. Negotiations on a contract extension have begun.
