Man United ‘agree personal terms’ with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite when Sir Jim Ratcliffe inches in on first signing

Manchester United have agreed to terms with Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to reports.

The 21-year-old Toffees defender had a spectacular season at Goodison Park, earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s provisional team for Euro 2024.

Jarrad Branthwaite allegedly agreed agreements with Manchester United.

However, after failing to make the tournament’s final roster, he has reportedly agreed to join Manchester United, however the Red Devils have yet to agree on a transfer fee with Everton.

According to The Times, the Merseyside club is holding out for £70 million.

SunSport understands that if an Everton takeover is confirmed, the 6ft4in defender will not be allowed to depart.

However, Branthwaite’s arrival at Old Trafford would be the club’s first signing since co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired his stake.

Man United’s interest in the defender comes barely 24 hours after it was announced that manager Erik ten Hag would stay.

The personal terms agreed upon with Branthwaite will reportedly pay him between £150,000 and £160,000 per week.

Ten Hag’s centre-backs suffered a number of injuries during the 2023/24 season.

Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Willy Kambwala, and Luke Shaw all had troubles during the season.

Branthwaite appeared in 35 of Everton’s 38 Premier League games this season.

Due to a lack of options, Manchester United chose to play Casemiro at centre-back, where he received harsh criticism.

Varane has already left the club, and Evans’ future remains uncertain.

Everton remains in financial difficulties and may be forced to sell additional players this summer in order to acquire finances.

They were deducted eight points this season but nevertheless managed to avoid relegation under Sean Dyche.
