The match concluded 1-1 after extra time, due to an 88th-minute equaliser by Al-Nassr star Ayman Yahya.

His goal came just after Al-Hilal’s Ali Albulayhi was given a straight red card.

That was the game’s second dismissal, as former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina was sent out shortly before the hour mark, reducing Al-Nassr to ten men.

There was more drama to come, however, as Kalidou Koulibaly, who joined Al-Hilal from Chelsea this summer, was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Al-Nassr’s substitute goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah.

Another former Premier League player, Aleksandar Mitrovic, had put Al-Hilal ahead in the seventh minute.

So, after a 1-1 draw, the game went to extra time, and penalties were used to select the winner.

Ruben Neves, a former Wolves player, had the first shot for Al-Hilal but missed.

However, Alex Telles, who previously played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, did his part to keep the score equal.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Red Cards

Ronaldo received his 12th career red card against Al Hilal.

Aston Villa vs. MAN UTD (2004): Yellow cards for diving and chipping custodian Thomas Sorensen after the whistle had blown.

Man City vs MAN UTD (2006): Straight red card for a high tackle on Manchester United icon Andy Cole, of all people.

Portsmouth vs. Manchester United (2007) – Richard Hughes received a straight red card for headbutting.

Man City vs. MAN UTD (2008): Yellow card for cynical foul on Shaun Wright-Phillips, followed by a second yellow for purposeful handball.

REAL MADRID vs. Almeria (2009): Ronaldo’s first home red card. One yellow for removing his shirt to celebrate a goal. A second yellow card was issued for kicking midfielder Juanma Ortiz.

REAL MADRID vs. Malaga (2010): Straight red card for a stray elbow that shattered defender Patrick Mtiliga’s nose. Ronaldo later stated, “If he wasn’t 5 foot 6, I might have caught him in the chest.”

REAL MADRID vs. Atletico Madrid (2013) – Ronaldo received a straight red card for a high kick to Atleti captain Gabi’s face as Real Madrid lost the Copa del Rey final 2-1 at home.

Athletic Bilbao vs. REAL MADRID (2014): Straight red card for punching an opponent in the face during a scuffle before a corner.

Cordoba vs. REAL MADRID (2015): Straight red card for kicking left-back Edimar and pushing center-back José Angel Crespo.

Barcelona vs. REAL MADRID (2017) – Ronaldo received a red card in the Manchester derby, the Madrid derby, and El Clasico in the 2017 Spanish Super Cup. The Portugal star was given yellow cards for diving and stripping his shirt to celebrate a goal at the Nou Camp. He made matters worse by attempting a minor push at the referee after being sent off.

Valencia vs. Juventus (2018) Controversial red card for defender Jeison Murillo, who flung himself to the ground as the duo jostled for position.

Al-Hilal versus AL-NASSR (2024) – There is little dispute about this one, as Ronaldo looked to swing his elbow twice at defender Ali Al-Bulayhi.

Mitrovic and Ronaldo then made no mistakes from 12 yards out, converting six more penalties before Al-Hilal’s Saud Abdulhamid missed.

Incredibly, Ali Alhassan was unable to capitalise for Al-Nassr, and when Nasser Aldawsari made it 5-4, it was up to Meshari Al-Nemer to keep his side in the game, which he failed to accomplish, much to Ronaldo’s disgust.
