Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez assures that the national team is ready for great things ahead of the 2024 Copa America.

With just under a month left until the Copa America 2024 kicks off in the United States, the tournament is heating up with plenty of related news.

Recently, Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez, who plays for Liverpool, spoke up about his thoughts and the ambitions of the Uruguayan national team for the upcoming tournament.

Quoting beinSPORTS: “We have shown ourselves against Brazil and Argentina, that we have many young players with great skills. All of us being present in the national team and major clubs across continents has a reason,” he told the press upon his return to Uruguay and presence at the national team training center.

Nunez emphasized that in the Copa America 2024, “the plan is to take it step by step” and set the goal to advance from the group stage and knockout matches, before “fighting in the final match and giving our all” to win the tournament and bring glory to the homeland.

In addition, the Liverpool forward expressed hope that Luis Suarez will be trusted and called up by Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa to join the national team alongside the younger players for the upcoming tournament.

“He jokes around a lot with the young players, and I would be very happy if he were there. Suarez is always there to help us. He has a lot of experience with the national team, and that is always beneficial for the team,” Nunez concluded.

Uruguay will kick off their Copa America campaign on June 24 against Panama at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. They are placed in Group C, along with hosts the United States and Bolivia.
