Liverpool has continued its trend of signing the sons of former Premier League players, with Keyrol Figueroa being the latest addition. The 17-year-old, son of former Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa, has signed a professional deal with the club.
Figueroa has been a part of Liverpool’s youth ranks for several years and has shown great potential. In the U14 level, he scored an impressive 90 goals in a single season, highlighting his scoring prowess. His remarkable performances have earned him a well-deserved professional contract, and he is determined to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Not only is Figueroa a promising talent at Liverpool, but he has also represented the USA at the youth level. He played a crucial role in helping his country reach the final of the CONCACAF U17 Championship and also featured in the U17 World Cup. Despite losing to Germany in the last 16, Figueroa showcased his abilities on the international stage.
Recently, Figueroa made a successful return from injury and scored a goal for Liverpool’s U18 team in a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. His next target is to progress to the U21 team, with Liverpool’s commitment to promoting youth players evident in recent years.
Liverpool already has several sons of former Premier League players in their ranks. Lewis Koumas, Jayden Danns, and Bobby Clark, whose fathers had successful careers in the league, have all featured for the club this season. It was Danns and Clark who came on as substitutes in the Carabao Cup final victory against Chelsea.
While Figueroa has shown a keen eye for goal, his father Maynor was known more for his defensive abilities during his playing career. Maynor represented Wigan Athletic and Hull City in the Premier League, making over 200 appearances. However, he did score a memorable long-range free-kick goal from his own half against Stoke City, which drew praise from his manager Roberto Martinez for its technicality and audacity.
The Figueroa family continues to make an impact in football, with Keyrol aiming to carry on his father’s legacy while making a name for himself at Liverpool.
