Expressing his surprise, the 26-year-old stressed the difficult decisions that young children in many parts of the world must make between attending school and ensuring their families have access to clean water. The England forward is pushing his followers to raise donations to help the more than 2 billion people who do not have access to clean and safe drinking water.
Unicef is organizing the Water Walk, a week-long program in September that urges people to walk five miles every day. The goal is to raise awareness about the startling figure of approximately 260 million people who must travel for more than 30 minutes every day just to get safe water.
“It is truly astonishing that millions of individuals worldwide have to embark on long walks solely to access clean water,” he said. Marcus can cross five miles of football pitch in about 75 minutes.
Marcus Rashford on X: “After what occurred on social media recently, I was apprehensive to join back in so quickly, but @unicef_uk Water Walk is a campaign that can be supported.
We often take for granted the convenience of being able to walk to the kitchen whenever we want and grab a fresh drink of water, but unfortunately, not everyone has that luxury.
“I want to use my platform to raise awareness of this, so I’m asking people to participate in Unicef UK’s Water Walk in order to help raise as much money as possible to support families in need of clean water and prevent young children from having to choose between attending school or playing with their friends.”

Unicef may use the funds received to establish water pumps and pipes to ensure that children have access to clean, safe drinking water. By 2030, the charity hopes to ensure that no child has to travel more than 30 minutes one way to get water.
