Arsenal is reportedly in talks with teenage forward Chido Obi-Martin for a professional contract, but European clubs may try to lure him away before he is old enough to sign with Arsenal. Bayern Munich is said to be interested in the talented 16-year-old player, who has impressed with his goal-scoring abilities for Arsenal’s youth academy teams. Obi-Martin has attracted attention by scoring 10 goals against Liverpool’s U-16 team and seven goals in a recent U-18 match against Norwich City.
While English clubs are restricted from signing professional contracts with players under 17 years old due to FA regulations, other European countries are not bound by the same limitations. This puts Arsenal at risk of losing the promising talent to other clubs.
A recent report from The Telegraph suggests that several European clubs are pursuing Obi-Martin due to his notable goal-scoring record. Bayern Munich is among the admirers, although it remains unclear if they will officially express their interest.
Obi-Martin has represented both England and Denmark at the youth level. He joined Arsenal’s youth academy from Kjobenhavns Boldklub at the age of 14, and the club is keen on retaining him for his development.
The young forward himself has expressed his desire to stay at Arsenal in the near future. Obi-Martin is currently represented by the same agency as Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, the Elite Project Group.
In a recent statement, Chido Obi-Martin said, “I want to stay at Arsenal for the long term. It’s a great club, and I feel like I’ve improved a lot in training. There are many talented players and good coaches, so I’m really happy to be there. I might have to permanently play for Arsenal’s U-21 team from next season. With the lack of forwards in the squad, it will be a good opportunity for me. Arsenal is a club that provides chances for young talents to play.”
