DIOGO DALOT was an unexpected pick for Footballer of the Year.

Phil Foden won the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award after a standout year with Manchester City.

Diogo Dalot was a surprising addition to the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year poll.

Phil Foden received the honor after playing for Manchester City.

Declan Rice placed second in the voting.

Foden, 23, defeated Arsenal’s Declan Rice and teammate Rodri to the top spot.

He is the first Englishman to win the award since Jordan Henderson in 2022.

Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins, and Cole Palmer rounded out the top six.

The rest of the list includes familiar names like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

However, there were several unexpected inclusions among the top 18 players.

Dalot, a Manchester United player, finished 16th in the vote.

This season, the club has struggled to realize its potential, but the defender appears to have impressed.

He wasn’t the only Manchester United player to receive votes; Bruno Fernandes finished five spots ahead of him.

Luton Town also had a representative on the voting list.

Scott Parker is the latest player to win the award while playing for a relegated team.
