Antony has been labeled a poor player following his provocative actions towards Coventry fans after their defeat against Manchester United.
In the FA Cup semi-final match, MU took a commanding 3-0 lead against Coventry after 58 minutes of play, but the Championship side managed to score three consecutive goals in the final 20 minutes to equalize the score at 3-3. The game then proceeded to extra time.
No further goals were scored during the 30-minute extra time period, leading the match to be decided by a penalty shootout. MU emerged victorious with a 4-2 win, securing their spot in the final against Manchester City at Wembley. Antony was subbed on just before Coventry’s first goal, and the Brazilian player was seen celebrating provocatively towards the Coventry fans when Rasmus Hojlund successfully converted the decisive penalty, sending MU to the final.
Antony was spotted cupping his hand to his ear towards the Coventry supporters. This prompted former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison to comment on BBC 5Live, saying, “He needs to concentrate on himself because he could be playing in the Championship next season.”
On social media, Antony faced criticism from many individuals. One person wrote, “Antony mocking the Coventry fans after Hojlund’s penalty. That’s just ugly.” Another commenter stated, “No shame, just disgraceful.” A patient fan expressed, “The standards at this club have dropped.” Another angered supporter remarked, “He thinks he’s won the World Cup or something.”
