Liverpool suffered their worst season result on Thursday evening, losing 3-0 to Atalanta at Anfield.
The Italians brushed aside the Reds in the Europa League, and it appears that the Merseyside club’s European odyssey will not end happily.
Simply put, Liverpool underperformed on the day, and even the guys they brought off the bench failed to make an impact.
In fact, one of their substitutes that day caused more issues than he solved.
Liverpool substitute that backfired
Brian Kerr of Virgin Media Sport evaluated the game and claimed that Dominik Szoboszlai was terrible against Atalanta, causing the Reds a number of problems when he came off the bench.
“The substitutes had no impact on the game tonight. I was thinking we’d be able to say look at what the subs accomplished, but Salah didn’t have much of an influence, Robertson had a tiny impact with a few beautiful passes, and Szoboszlai When he came on, he probably exacerbated more difficulties than he solved,” Kerr said.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s worst performance for Liverpool
Dominik Szobsozlai has barely missed a beat since joining Liverpool for £60 million in the summer, but this could be his worst performance for the club.
Indeed, he was all over the place against Atalanta, and he did not look like himself.
We’re not sure what was wrong with Szoboszlai that night. Perhaps the pressure got to him, he was carrying a little injury, or his mind was simply not in the game.
In any case, it’s a problem that Liverpool must address quickly. Szoboszlai is an important player for the Reds, and if he’s not on his game in the final weeks of the season, the Reds may struggle to win the Premier League title.
