Against the Bucks, the Celtics make rare NBA history by failing to attempt a single free throw

In their 104–91 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night, the Boston Celtics created a little piece of unusual NBA history. Throughout the whole game, the Celtics made zero attempts at free throws. From standout Jayson Tatum in 37 minutes to backup Svi Mykhailiuk in seven minutes, all ten Boston players who touched the floor were not awarded a trip to the charity stripe.

Boston becomes the first team in NBA history to finish a game without attempting a free throw. After the game, Tatum responded, “Another day in the NBA,” when questioned about the strange accomplishment of the Celtics. “They let a lot of stuff go, maybe just getting ready for the postseason. I suppose they are merely preparing us for the NBA playoffs.”

To add even more intrigue to the strange record-breаking night, the Bucks only tried two free throws, with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo making both of them in the first quarter before to his departure due to a calf ιnjury. In NBA single-game history, Boston and Milwaukee’s combined total of two free throw attempts stands as the lowest.

In all, 12 fouls were called during the game; the Bucks received four and the Celtics eight. The only two players to receive multiple personal foul whistles were Bucks big Khris Middleton (two) and Celtics guard Jaylen Brown (three).

An unprecedented officiating team led by crew chief Marc Davis, referee Bent Taylor, and umpire Danielle Scott will go down in history.
