Potential Liverpool squad under Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, is now the most likely candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Following the heartbreaking statement by the German tactician earlier this year in January that he would be stepping down, speculation has surrounding the club as to who would succeed the departing manager.
Sky Germany recently announced that the Portuguese international has reached an agreement in principle to take over the Reds in the summer, with a three-year contract. It’s understandable that some managers enjoy taking their players with them, so we might see some of that as well.
Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio were on the Reds’ radar long before the managerial story began. This might happen. A prospective Liverpool lineup under Amorim may not differ significantly from Klopp’s lineup, but let us see what it looks like.
What significant changes?
As previously said, the lineup will remain unchanged from what it is today. Klopp has already developed a team for the future, and the incoming manager will most likely be concerned with player management rather than tactical issues. However, there are a few gaps that require addressing.
Paris Saint-Germain has showed a strong interest in pursuing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, which is why he is not included in the prospective lineup. That creates an opportunity for Cody Gakpo to reclaim his spot in the XI and make the left-wing position his own, rather than playing as a “Jack of all trades, and master of none.” Let’s imagine Liverpool gets a good price for Lucho.
The Reds can then use that price to sign a talented right winger who can serve as a backup to Mohamed Salah. Ben Doak is a great option, but he is only 18, and it is logical to wonder if he is mature enough to play a rotating position this early in his career. Having said that, he is a good player, and his time will undoubtedly come.
Having said that, all of these athletes are mature enough to recognize which positions suit them best. Any new manager, whether Amorim or Nathaniel Phillips, must ensure that everyone plays to their abilities and that the attacking style of football continues to thrive on Merseyside.
The possible Liverpool roster under Amorim may not undergo wholesale changes, but smart tweaks and reinforcements in key areas might boost the team’s competitiveness. With a solid foundation already in place, Liverpool’s focus will be on fine-tuning tactics and sustaining Klopp’s high standards in order to continue their pursuit of silverware.
