However, Express Sport has identified three players who have let the Dutchman down as United face a dismal Premier League season ahead.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana has progressed since a slow start to his United career, and the 28-year-old goalkeeper saved his team on multiple occasions against Chelsea.

However, Conor Gallagher’s early opener was a missed opportunity. This isn’t the first time a relatively key effort has slipped under his body this season.

Did the goal eventually influence the outcome? Probably not. However, the fourth-minute strike established the frantic aspect of the fight, laying the groundwork for a spectacular finale.

He was also sent the wrong way by both of Palmer’s penalties, denying himself the opportunity to be the night’s hero.

Diogo Dalot

Diogo Dalot delivered an excellent cross that found Bruno Fernandes at the back post for United’s first-half equalizer. However, he also showed his defensive shortcomings to expose the back line.

The 25-year-old began as Ten Hag’s left-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia still missing, although he is experienced enough for the position.

He was out of position in the build-up to Gallagher’s opening, leaving United vulnerable to a well-known issue produced by a cut-back.

Then, late in stoppage time, Dalot’s reckless mistake took Noni Madueke down, resulting in the penalty that launched Chelsea’s comeback.

Casemiro

The £70 million United paid Real Madrid for Casemiro less than two years ago appears to be an even more perplexing decision by the game.

He was clearly off the pace again at Stamford Bridge, moving as if he were running through concrete before being substituted by Scott McTominay in the 75th minute.

It’s evident that United must try to cash in on the 32-year-old this summer, given alleged interest from Saudi Arabia.

Kobbie Mainoo needs a top-tier midfield partner if his meteoric rise is to continue, and Casemiro no longer fits the bill.
