Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres made a special visit to the AXA Training Centre to observe Jürgen Klopp and his coaching team in action. Currently serving as the head coach of Atletico Madrid U19s, Torres took the opportunity to gain a unique behind-the-scenes look and further his coaching career.
Torres, who recently led the LFC Legends to victory over AFC Ajax at Anfield, returned to Merseyside for a second time to spend a day with the senior team, academy, and staff. After speaking with Klopp, Torres trained with the senior players in Kirkby following his work with the academy. He will also be present at Anfield for the Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
When asked about his takeaway as a rookie coach from the experience, Torres emphasized the charisma and character of Klopp and his staff in their interactions with players. He praised Klopp’s approach of treating everyone like family, which he considers the most important factor. Torres expressed his admiration for Klopp and his staff, noting the growth of the club and the opportunity to understand the “Liverpool way.”
Torres also highlighted the continuity of the club’s passion and familial atmosphere, mentioning familiar faces from his playing days such as Carol and Caroline in the kitchen, as well as Paul Small and Chris Morgan. Despite new additions to the club, Torres commended Liverpool for maintaining its foundation and family-oriented approach while continuing to grow and improve.
Believing in the personal relationships between players, staff, and everyone involved in the club, Torres sees it as the key to success. He expressed his appreciation for witnessing firsthand that Liverpool shares the same mindset, emphasizing the value of such unity.
